Is supported living right for you?

Supported living offers an alternative to residential care and empowers you to choose the right amount of support – how and when you need it – so you can lead an enriching and fulfilling life.

Our supported living schemes are designed for people with learning disabilities, autism, brain injuries or complex care needs. If you’re looking for supported living whilst living an independent life, you’ve come to the right place. We are passionate about delivering the best possible care and support.

What is supported living?

Supported living allows you to live independently and have control over how and when you receive support. We can support you to achieve your goals, such as becoming an active member of your local community.

Our flexible support is tailored to your needs, whether you’re looking for a few hours a week or more. Together, we co-create personalised support plans focusing on your interests, priorities and skills.

Whatever your needs are, we’re here to help. The type of support you receive is controlled by you. From help with personal care needs and managing finances, to finding education, work or leisure activities – you decide!

What types of supported living are there?

There are a variety of different types of supported living we can offer and we’ll strive

You could choose to live independently in your own flat with as much or as little support as you need. This could be in one of our already established properties, or we can work with you and our housing partners to source a property that meets your needs.

We can help connect you to other people who might want to live independently too but aren’t yet ready to live alone. You will have your own space but benefit from socialising with other like-minded people, sharing the communal spaces and sharing the costs of household bills.

You may be looking for the best of both worlds. Your own modern apartment with some shared communal space so you can choose when and if you want to socialise. We have worked with our housing partners to develop this popular type of accommodation.

This provides stability whilst you are between long-term support solutions. This type of support will help you plan for your future in a structured way. We will support you with the skills you may need to help you live more independently and, when you are ready, support you to move on.

  • Supported Living

Dimensions’ advice to families investigating different models of support is to concentrate on finding support that will enable your loved one to gain choice and control over his or her life, to remain healthy and happy and to maintain the things that are important to him or her.

This page on supported living aims to help families who are questioning their loved one’s living arrangements, particularly those thinking about a move away from the family home. In it, we answer common questions and discuss supported living and residential care options in detail to give you information to determine if supported living could be the right route for your loved one.

What is Supported Living?

Our Supported Living model provides each person with a tenancy in their own self-contained flat. The support provided is tailored to individual needs and designed to support individuals who are largely independent and who are working towards living independently in the community over time.

Our Supported Living services are also suitable for individuals who benefit from their own space or who may find it more difficult to live closely alongside others.

We provide flexible support and positive challenges at the individual’s pace to enable personal choice and self-worth in line with their individual needs, aspirations, activities and life choices. .

We initially offer a higher level of support with a clear pathway for reducing support over time as individuals become significantly more independent. When individuals are ready to move into their own flat in the community, we work with the individual, family members, their wider support team and our housing partners to explore and secure the best possible option for moving on.

  • What are the aims of supported living?

    • Enables and empowers the individual person to make choices and have a real say about their everyday life, and in the decisions that affect them
    • It is based on equality, respects the rights of the individual and acknowledges the diverse backgrounds and lives of the people receiving a service
