Homelessness & complex needs

Myriad Care has several dedicated specialist interventions for women that are located across London, Bedfordshire, Brighton & Hove.

Our women’s services encompass community engagement through floating support, outreach, and accommodation-based projects. These services provide assistance exclusively to women with multiple and complex needs including:

• Domestic abuse, sexual violence and exploitation
• Forensic mental health and personality disorder
• Female offenders and women at risk of offending
• Homelessness – single women and families
• Substance use
• Lack of self-esteem/confidence
• Complex historic and enduring trauma

Myriad Care works with an extensive cohort of individuals where alcohol and/or drugs play a significant part in their lives either through addiction or recovery.

We operate Brook Drive, the only charitably run detoxification service in London that is publicly funded and Aspinden Wood, a specialist CQC registered care home that also supports people with long-term addictions to alcohol who are possibly resistant to changing their drinking behaviour.

• Myriad Care Penrose provides resettlement support for people in prison, through the gates and in the community.
• Our main focus is helping to reduce reoffending and ensuring recidivism rates are kept low by providing behavioural programmes, support to address the underlying cause of offending behaviour and help to obtain employment and accommodation and reintegrate into families and local communities.
• Last year we supported over 9,000 people in prison and the community.

• Supported Accommodation
  Either temporary or longer stay projects for up to 2 years; with onsite staff support to recover from a period of instability, to prepare for independent living, and to offer a safe and secure home to those who need additional support whilst focussing on Service User asset building and becoming active citizens.
• Housing Related Floating Support
  A peripatetic service offering needs-based individualised support to enable Service Users to live independently and successfully in their own communities.
• Community Based Recovery Services
  Creating community-based opportunities for Service Users, members and volunteers to engage in social, learning and therapeutic activities and groups to develop skills, and reintegrate into their communities.

• Myriad Care Penrose and Equinox offer a range of innovative approaches in supporting people with Personality Disorder’s (PD) that negatively impact on theirs and others’ lives, serving areas across London and the South East.
• We specialise in forensic personality services and provide housing and accommodation support services (HASS) in partnership with NHS England and the MOJ. Referrals are made pan-London for adults who are a risk to themselves or others due to their offending behaviour and personality disorder. They are likely to meet the diagnostic criteria of ‘personality disorder’.
• We also provide a specialist HUB for Women with a diagnosed personality disorder that are living in the community and need additional specialist support to ensure they remain engaged with services and obtain support to live independently and gain access to employment.
• Services are delivered over varying terms depending on the individual’s need. We work flexibly with Service Users while ensuring our service is consistent, reliable, and promotes autonomy and choice.

• Most individuals we work with are helped within our supported housing services. This includes accommodation-based hostel and floating support services.

• Individuals in our hostels may have come directly from the streets, prison or hospital. They may have found themselves homeless following a relationship or housing breakdown.
• We have developed our hostels to provide Psychologically Informed Environments, that take into account the psychological needs of the individuals who live there, many of whom will have experienced complex trauma.
• We support each person to get back on their feet, access the help, advice and psychological support they need, and move on to their own accommodation within two years, usually in the private rented sector.

• We support people in their own homes, helping them to manage and maintain their tenancies, preventing a return to homelessness. We support them to build skills, get into training or find work, access local services and be part of their local communities.
• We also provide properties through the Clearing House as part of the Rough Sleepers Initiative, that people with histories of rough sleeping can access alongside floating support.

• These specialist services work with women, men and families who are often very vulnerable and have been at significant risk. Many will have experienced complex trauma, including domestic, physical or sexual abuse or exploitation.
• We deliver inclusive services with sensitivity and compassion, informed by principles of Trauma Informed Care.

• These services support individuals who may have spent years, even decades rough sleeping. They may have a long history of multiple exclusions or accommodation breakdown and be increasingly frail or in poor health.
• Our teams help them to engage with primary and secondary healthcare, access treatment services and where appropriate, support end of life care.
