Senior Healthcare Support Workers help registered practitioners deliver healthcare services to people.

As an experienced support worker, they will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered healthcare practitioner. They will provide high quality, compassionate healthcare, following standards, policies and protocols and always acting within the limits of their competence.

They could work in a range of services e.g. hospital, community, health or daycare unit, birth centre or midwifery led unit, someone’s home, operating theatre, nursing or care home, assessment centre, hospice, school, prison, GP surgery, charity or voluntary organisation; working in partnership with individuals, families, carers and other service providers.

Duties are delegated in line with care plans. Not all duties are routine and they will need to use their knowledge, experience and understanding to make decisions.

The role requires some experience
in healthcare so they are able to demonstrate best practice and act as a role model. Apprentices in this role may supervise or guide less experienced staff in the team. They will follow the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers.

Next steps

Apprentices may be able to work towards an Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate post, or providing they meet the entry requirements, apply to university to become a registered healthcare practitioner.

Providing high-quality and compassionate health and social care for a wide range of people.

Healthcare support workers (HCSWs) work as part of a team providing high quality and compassionate care to individuals. They will carry out well defined routine clinical duties like monitoring an individual’s conditions (by checking things like blood pressure, temperature or weight), checking on their overall progress, comfort and wellbeing.

Depending on the employment setting, they may also help those in their care to eat, drink, wash, dress or go to the toilet. They will prepare individuals

for healthcare activities carried out by other members of the healthcare team, looking after them before, during and/ or after those activities in line with their care plan. They will also carry out non-clinical duties and, depending on the setting, this could include things like keeping records, making beds, tidying up your work area, returning or cleaning the equipment used during a clinical activity.

Healthcare apprentices will be able to address straightforward problems in their day to day work, reporting concerns and changes to the appropriate person in a timely manner. HCSWs work in a range of healthcare settings and their team may include workers from both health and social care. They will report to a registered healthcare practitioner who will directly or indirectly supervise work.

Responsibilities and duties of the role:

HCSWs will be able to work effectively as part of a team. They will work within agreed ways of working, following
the relevant standards, policies and protocols used in your workplace including the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England. Apprentices will be supported to achieve the Care Certificate which forms part of their induction and covers the fundamental skills needed to provide quality care.

Working in partnership with NHS England and HMPPS and receiving referrals from the National Probation Service, we will support men and women in the pathway being released from prison, secure healthcare settings or moving on from Approved Premises. Our 24-hour service will provide far more than a roof over people’s heads; it will offer a base for a range of 1-1 and group interventions, delivered by our teams and by external partners, that will equip residents with the skills and confidence to move on safely into independent living.

This role will be based in our Women's service in Lambeth, the post holder will work as an vital member of the Offender Personality Disorder Housing and Support Service. Working in collaboration with the National Probation Service and other partners within the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway, you will support adult females who have recently been released from prison, secure health settings or who are moving on from Approved Premises.

We are currently recruiting for experienced and committed Waking Night Support Workers to join our care and support rehabilitation services based in and around Lambeth, London, supporting adults with complex mental health needs. The Focus Project is a 24-hour supported service for vulnerable male adults with a mental health diagnosis and forensic history, who require a high level of support and close monitoring to reduce the factors that may have led to their previous mental health deterioration and offending behaviour.

As a Night Support Worker your role is to support service users to achieve their personal goals and positive outcomes, by providing a supportive, responsive and effective waking night service to service users ensuring that they remain safe, well and supported. You will work with service users towards their recovery by encouraging them to stay safe and supporting them to develop healthy routines, while being required to provide cover to the project at night, ensuring the safety of all residents and the building.

Drawing on your knowledge of recovery focused support, you will have direct experience of working with adults who are vulnerable and have multiple and complex needs within a supported accommodation setting or similar. We have an exciting opportunity for an innovative and motivated Clinical Psychologist to work in our forensic mental health step-down services across four sites within the London Borough of Croydon, as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team. The aim of the service is to provide staged (High/Medium/Low) accommodation-based support to people referred by South London and Maudsley Trust (SLaM) that will allow them to address their complex support needs and prepare for independent living whilst also managing the risk individuals may pose to the community.

The Clinical Psychologist will be responsible for providing clinical psychology services to improve short and long-term outcomes for service users experiencing complex mental health problems. This will include providing highly specialist psychological assessment and effective evidence based interventions, including neuropsychological assessment, formulate and care planning where appropriate. Working closely with staff and service users, you will develop bespoke interventions for individuals, undertake risk assessment and management; providing advice, guidance and consultation on psychological care to colleagues from other disciplines. You will also work collaboratively with clinicians from the SLaM Forensic Team to ensure appropriate risk measures are in place through structured engagements and communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied Psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • Proven experience as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings.

The service currently offers recovery focused support to men and women with long term mental health difficulties, with the aim of supporting service users to increase their independence and move them on into lower support accommodation.

As the Service Manager, you will be responsible for delivering the highest standards of service quality, performance and improvements across the service through excellent leadership. You will work in conjunction with mental health services, other partner agencies and carers to improve living skills, increase social inclusion, and help individuals understand and manage their mental health in order to improve their quality of life.
